Dr. K S Chandrakanth

Ln. Dr. Chandrakanth PMJ joined lions in 2000 and is a Director board member of Lions Club of Calicut East. He is A Eye Surgeon by profession, presently he is the Chairman and Managing Director of Dr. Chandrakanth Malabar Nethralaya , Vandipetta , Calicut, and has a professional experience of 27 years in Calicut.

Before coming to Calicut he had served as a Senior Consultant eye surgeon at world famous Aravind Eye Hospital Madurai for 12 years. At Madurai he had performed Lakhs of surgery including Cataract. He has participated and led thousands of community eye reach
programmes in the form of free camps. A majority of them under this Lions Club Banner.

At Calicut to begin with, he took up many assignment as a chief Consultant Eye Surgeon at Comtrust Eye Hospital. In the first year of its inception, the urge to start an Independent Eye Hospital made him to take up the Chairman ship and chief consultant’s position at Malabar Eye Hospital. He was also a partner in the same, but his vision of an Eye hospital, his Eye care commitment to the society and his long cherished dream of starting his own hospital made him to start his own hospital Dr, Chandrakanth Malabar Nethralaya at K.P Chandran Road, Calicut.

On the lions front he has conducted various eye screening Camps under Lions Club of 3186. He was Dist Chairman of Sight for Kids and Sight First programmes numerous times. He had won best District Chairman Award 2 times in past. He has conducted Thousands of free Eye Screening camps in rural areas to benefit the poor.

• Served as a Senior Consultant in Aravid Eye Hospital , Madurai for 12 yrs, he had a distinction of being trained and worked in all Sub specialities of Ophthalmology. like Padmabooshan Late. Dr. G.Venkitaswamy the founder of Aravind eye Hospital, Dr. Namperumal one of the Doyens of Retina vitreous surgery in India, Dr.Nachiar and Dr.M.Sreenivasan .
• He started his practices in Calicut 21 years back .
• He was the first Surgeon to do Phako emulsification operation for Cataract in Malabar.
• Other first to his credit are Lasik Laser Yag Laser, Treatment for Glaucoma , Cataract, Retinal Laser to treat Retinopathy due to Hyper tension and Dibetics and Fundus Fluorescen Angiography to detect Retinal diseases.
• He has presented Numerous Scientific papers in Sate , National and International Conferences
• He has operated on 42 Cataract patients in the train Life Line Express – Hospitals on Wheels
• He has extensively travelled to Europe and west Asian countries to attend and present Scientific papers . He has performed Live surgeries In Kerala State Conference. He has been faculty in State ,National , International conferences.
• He is a Life member of IMA, All India Ophthalmic Association, Kerala State Society Kozhikode Ophthalmic Society.
• He is active in Socio Cultural activities like Lions Club International, IMA etc.
• His wife SreeDevi Chandrakanth also the Director of the Hospital and his son Dr Prithvi Chandrakanth is an Ophthalmologist Vitreo Retinal Surgeon worked as senior consultant at Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore. Now working at Dr.Chandrakanth Nethralaya as a Senior Vitreo Retinal Surgeon. His Daughter , Dr.Greeshma Chandrakanth after passing M.B.B.S is pursuing her higher studies .
